The signs and symptoms of depression and suicidal behavior in adolescents are often observable behaviors first noticed by school personnel. The following lists common changes in classroom behavior, which may reflect serious depression and/or suicidal behavior.

Acknowledge:  take it seriously and be willing to listen.
Care: voice your concern. Take the initiative to ask what is troubling your friend, co-worker or loved one, and attempt to overcome any reluctance on their part to talk about it.
Treatment: get professional help immediately.
